I just don't understand how you force Google to sell Google Chrome. At that point, it would not be Google Chrome. If I recall, Google does have control over the general Chromium project, and maybe that control could be given to a more independent entity, but it doesn't make sense for Google Chrome itself to be severed from Google.
If Yahoo buys Chrome from Google, then it'll be called Yahoo Netscape. If OpenAI biys it, it'll be called BrowserGPT.
You missed out Amazon Silk browser which is indeed based on Google Chromium.

I honestly think BlackBerry should make a comeback by making their own browser! They are known for safety and security, the shoe fits! I’d use it for everything. I can imagine the browser being named like “Portal”.

I switched to Brave only because I got an iPhone and Firefox on IOS is pretty bad (Apple fault tbh) and I need some kind of sync function between my PCs and phone, but I would have preferred to continue using Firefox to support the only non-Chromium option we have.

I once vouched for people switching to Chrome back in its earlier days. I was a Firefox boi, but I loved that Google was convincing more people to switch away from Internet Explorer. It's sad to see Google do a Microsoft, so now I vouch for people switching away from Chrome.

I use Firefox because I don't want to use Chrome. So it is the Ad revenue issue funding more than anything. Also Research the break up of Bell in the US and the oil company that got the Anti-Trust… Exxon or Standard Oil I can't recall which one.
If they had to divest fr chrome it wouldn't be sold, it would be spun off into a new company and pay royalties

This is why we need regulations.
If we treat data like a resource like food or fossil fuels, these companies are like the big companies of old, the are no other buyers. So we define what is an acceptable practice and minimum standards. Tech like browsers aren’t going to move as fast anymore, so it’s time for legislation.
there needs to be regulations on what they can collect, how often. They can offer a paid version (valid for n years) that doesn’t collect any data if need be

People keep talking about how Chrome needs to be sold. They forget what happened to Bell Telephone company and AT&T. The US gov't broke that up into multiple different independent companies. They could just slice off the division that runs Chrome and have it become its own company. Similarly, they could break off other services like the G Suite.

IMO, turn Chrome into a non-profit company and make Chrome 100% open source project. Chromium is open source but there's no way to make request/propose a change directly.
It should be like the Linux kernel. Where it'll be a simple open source hosted git project (in Github/GitLab/or their own) where anyone can open a Pull Request to implement a feature or change.
But there will be a team of developers who will be actively work on it and review PRs and merge accordingly. Like how Linus Torvalds and team of Linux contributors operate
I agree with the latter point. Chrome prime is dead, but chromium lives on and the companies using it have to keep it up themselves.
Solitaire was created on pc so you had something to do while you wait for dial up to load the internet page kids these day have no clue it took 5-10 minutes or more depending on how many pictures the website had basically just went to aol looked around and used aol chat rooms

Google will just create a new company that owns chrome seperatly, but absolutley nothing else will change, it would still be owned by google. And this wouldnt change anything when it comes to competition, this is empty politics. They will never agree to sell it to someone else, thats insane. I love Vivaldi with the Startpage engine. I also have Brave Search set up, so honestly? I'd love to watch Google burn. I'm 98% de-Googled anyway.
